59 Racing Mclaren GT4

This year we were excited to reveal our new branding opportunity on the 59 Racing Mclaren GT4 at the 2019 Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix. Behind the wheel, the highly under-rated, Ryan Simpson drove the car to its maiden victory in the Australian GT GT4 class. After his impressive performance, Simpson stepped up as Fraser Ross's Co-Driver for in the new Mclaren 720s GT3 for the remaining Enduro rounds. Since then the car has laid dormant whilst the team measure the growth and opportunity the GT4 category has to offer.

However, just last week Mclaren Customer Racing alongside 59 Racing announced a future partnership to help budding young drivers step up into GT Motor Racing. The first demonstration of this effort was at the Shannons Nationals Sandown event just last weekend, where factory cademy driver Michael O'Brien was partnered with our very own Christian Fitzgerald.

The team did well to turn some heads over the weekend by consistently beating the KTM GT4s, however with a lap and a half lead an unfortunate brake mishap found O'Brien touch the wall at Turn 9. Due to the structure of the split enduro round the team was unable to get the car back out for the final leg of the event. Overall though, the team showed strong performance against seasoned professionals and can hopefully take home the gold at the next Sandown Round in November.
